.திருநெல்வேலி : எல்.ஐ.சி.சட்ட திருத்த மசோதாவை எதிர்த்து பாளை., நெல்லை டவுன் எல்.ஐ.சி.அலுவலகம் முன்பு ஊழியர்கள், அதிகாரிகள், வளர்ச்சி அதிகாரிகள், முகவர்கள் ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர். எல்.ஐ.சி.சட்ட திருத்த மசோதா பார்லிமென்டில் தாக்கல் செய்யப்படவுள்ளது. இதற்கு எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தும், விலைவாசி உயர்வு, பொதுத்துறை பங்கு விற்பனைக்கு எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தும் எல்.ஐ.சி.கோட்ட அலுவலகம், நெல்லை எல்.ஐ.சி.அலுவலகம் முன்பு ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் நடந்தது. பாளை., கோட்ட அலுவலகம் முன்பு நடந்த ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்திற்கு கோட்ட பொதுச் செயலாளர் முத்துக்குமாரசாமி தலைமை வகித்தார். சங்கத்தலைவர் மதுபால், முத்தையா முன்னிலை வகித்தனர். கூட்டத்தில் திரளான ஊழியர்கள், முகவர்கள், அதிகாரிகள் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

Members of the Insurance Corporation Employees' Union (ICEU), Madurai division, staged a lunch-hour demonstration here on Tuesday urging the Central government scrap the LIC and Insurance Law Amendment bills
Answering a call given by the All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA) in view of winter session of Parliament commencing on Tuesday, the protestors raised slogans pressing various demands.
According to the ICEU's general secretary-Madurai division, N. Suresh Kumar, the LIC Amendment bill was a possible precursor to privatisation as it empowered the government to revoke its sovereign guarantee given to Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India. This was a long standing demand of private insurance companies and would benefit only them and not the people.
Also, the bill empowered the government to raise its capital to Rs. 100 crore from the present Rs. 5 crore. The government could, at a later date, approach the stock markets and sell its shares. Also, the bill mandated the LIC to reduce bonus given to policy holders from the present 95 per cent of the company's surplus to 90 per cent.
Even though a Parliamentary Standing Committee had recommended against revoking the sovereign guarantee or reducing the bonus given to policy holders, the Centre seems intent on tabling the Bill in this session and proceeding with the proposed measures, he said.
The Insurance Law Amendment Bill would allow increasing the cap on foreign direct investment in insurance sector to 49 per cent from 26 per cent. Also, it would allow public sector general insurance companies to approach the stock markets to raise capital, which could also lead to possible privatisation, he said.
Mr. Suresh Kumar said that if the government failed to listen to the unions, they would have no choice but to escalate their protests.

LIC employees stage agitation

Employees of the divisional office of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) staged a demonstration here on Tuesday in front of the office demanding that the Central government do not pass two acts related to insurance sector which they alleged ‘will affect the welfare of policy holders and agents'.
R.Punniyamurthy, Thanjavur district president of the All India Insurance Employees Association, led the agitation. Raja of Agents Association and S.Selvaraj of the officers association participated in the demonstration.
Later Mr.Punniyamurthy told presspersons that it has been planned by the Central government to introduce 31 Bills during this winter session of Parliament that began on Tuesday. Out of them two are related to the insurance sector. In one Act, 95 per cent bonus given to policy holders has been reduced to 90 per cent. Another act paves way for increasing the foreign investment in insurance sector in the country to 41 per cent from 26 per cent. Saying that if these Bills are passed, the LIC employees throughout the country will go on a one-day strike. Mr.Punniyamurthy added that insurance sector employees staged demonstrations in support of their demands throughout the country on Tuesday. In Thanjavur district, demonstrations were held in all the 27 branch offices besides the divisional office at Thanjavur.

CUDDALORE, November 23, 2011 Insurance employees see red in move to introduce amendment Bills
Members of the Insurance Corporation Employees' Union staged a demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the move to introduce the LIC Amendment Bill and the Insurance Amendment Bill in Parliament.
Joint secretary of the union (Vellore division) D. Manavalan criticised the United Progressive Alliance Government for not taking into consideration the recommendation of the Standing Committee of the Finance Ministry not to go ahead with the LIC Amendment Bill as it would be detrimental to the interest of policy-holders and ruin the economy.
Opposing the Bill, the All India Insurance Employees' Association had collected over 17 lakh signatures and sent it to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Mr. Manavalan said that when the insurance industry all over the world is struggling for survival and private insurance companies are facing closure and bankruptcy, the LIC is not only performing well but also on an expansion mode.
The UPA government seemed to be keen on destabilising the nationalised insurance industry and this is not acceptable, he said. Secretary K.P. Sugumaran said if the government did not heed the demand, insurance employees would go on a nationwide strike.
